C.A.M.P. Aerial Spotting School in session

Mendocino county is once again hosting the Campaign Against Marijuana Planting's Aerial Spotting School. There was a KZYX radio news piece about it, you can hear it archived at KMUD. Here's an archived article with comments from last year. Sheriff Tom Allman is taking the course, he says he's the first sheriff here to do so. I was in Ukiah last week and saw the helicopters, this week they're in Laytonville with airplanes and helicopters circling over and over. The sheriff said he understood it to be primarily spotting training, but if they found something big they would initiate some kind of enforcement action. A call to CLMP revealed many people had been complaining about the flyovers, but no enforcement actions were reported. Kudos to sheriff Allman for getting more involved in the process, we need more locals watching the feds to keep them honest.

In the waning hours of a Blue Moon...

I finally took the plunge and started a blog. The festival season is here, with Harmony and Sierra Nevada coming up, Kate Wolf, Oregon Country Fair, Reggae, Burning Man, and Earthdance to name a few. Reggae is my favorite. To say it's a big deal for folks around here might be a bit of an understatement. That's why I wanted to share some thoughts, create a forum for comments, and hopefully provide some helpful information so we can all have a great time.
